Regional Hubs

We are looking for people who are interested in becoming regional links and setting up hubs in their area. In some areas, we already have active groups which organise teacher and student events, and we are looking for more people who would be interested in doing the same in their area, so that we can further support the teaching and learning of Spanish throughout the country.

At the moment, we have active groups in Roscommon, Limerick and Kerry. Would you like to add your area to that list? Or to join one of the existing groups?  If so, get in touch with us at atsirlanda@gmail,com!

Roscommon/Sligo

The year before last Margaret Monaghan and Yésica Jiménez-Godoy organized a quiz for students in this region. They organized sponsorship and prizes with the help of their schools and local businesses and the event was a great success. They also created a database of all schools teaching Spanish in Roscommon, Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Donegal and Leitrim.

Limerick

The group in Limerick, under the guidance of John McCrohan, has previously organised a salsa night and a quiz for students in the area. They also met to prepare a submission for the Exam Review document.

Kerry

At a meeting in November in Kerry facilitated by Bríd ni Chonchuir, teachers heard from a teacher who works with the PDST about ideas for recording students, and about the modern language resources available on the PDST website. Another teacher shared feedback on the subject inspection process, having recently gone through it in her school. There was also a general discussion on the Leaving Cert paper. Teachers felt that the listening section in 2013 was particularly difficult. This group meets annually to prepare a submission for the Exam Review document.

As you can see, there are different levels of activity in different area, and a different focus in each area. We would love to have you on board as a regional link who would consider organising or facilitating student or teacher events in your area. As mentioned above, please email atsirlanda@gmail.com to find out more or to become involved - please get in touch!
